Mario Giampietro

Prof. Mario Giampietro, Italy

Specialty: Development of MuSIASEM methodology integrating biophysics and socio-economics.

Biography: Mario Giampietro recently retired from his position as ICREA Research Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He is currently associated with the European Centre for Governance of Complexity in Norway. His research focuses on the integrated evaluation of sustainability issues, using complex systems theory. He developed the Multi-Scale Integrated Analysis of Societal and Ecosystem Metabolism (MuSIASEM) methodology. He has authored over 150 publications, including six books. Andreas Pyka

Specialty: Innovation economics and complex dynamics.

Biography : Andreas Pyka is Professor for Innovation Economics at the University of Hohenheim, Germany. His research interests include transformation processes towards a sustainable and climate neutral economy, the role of innovation for transformation and the application of new methodologies to overcome the limitations of mainstream economics in the analysis of lung run developments. He is involved in several national and international research projects dealing with the impacts of the bioeconomy, artificial intelligence and robots, and mobility and energy change. His theoretical background is evolutionary and complexity economics. He graduated with a PhD in economics at the University of Augsburg where he also finished his habilitation in 2004. In the last years he was visiting professor at the Technical University of Delft, the Università degli studi dell'Insubria in Varese and the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. He is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Innovation Economics and Management (Revue d'Economie et de Management de l'Innovation) and member of the editorial board of the Journal of Evolutionary Economics. Andreas Pyka also actively is engaged in scientific associations, he served more than 10 years as editor (elected) of the international Schumpeter Society, he has been President of the Think tank Lisbon Civic Forum and chairman of the Evolutionary Economics Group in Germany and he coordinated the Research Area Innovation and Technological Change of the EAEPE. He is Vice President of the University of Hohenheim since 2012 and coordinator of the Bachelor program in economics at he German Turkish University in Istanbul.

 

Piergiuseppe Morone

Specialty: Circular bioeconomy and green innovation.

Biography: Piergiuseppe Morone is a professor specializing in sustainable transitions, particularly circular bioeconomy and green innovation. He leads the Bioeconomy in Transition Research Group at Unitelma Sapienza University. His work includes EU projects like STAR-ProBio, contributing to sustainability assessment tools.

Franck-Dominique Vivien

Biography : Franck-Dominique Vivien is Professor of Economics at the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne (URCA). He is director of the Centre de Recherche Interdisciplinaire Economie Gestion (CRIEG) of this university and its REGARDS team (EA 6292). He is a member of the Research Commission of the EXEBIO International Institute. He is URCA's representative on the Chaire Comptabilité écologique (https://www.chaire-comptabilite-ecologique.fr/), of which REGARDS is a founding academic member. He is one of the editors-in-chief of the interdisciplinary journal Natures Sciences Sociétés, available online (https://www.nss-journal.org/fr/). He is a member of the Société francophone d'économie écologique (SOFEE).

His research focuses on the economics of sustainable development and ecological transition. He is currently particularly interested in issues relating to the bioeconomy and the circular economy.

Since 2004, he has been the instigator and head of postgraduate degrees in environmental economics and sustainable development at the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne. He is currently in charge of the Master's degree in Sustainability Sciences.

Summer School Program

The research lab CRIEG - REGARDS is pleased to announce its international conference 2025: "Towards an Ecological Bioeconomy – Exploring Concepts and Practices through Social Sciences and Humanities", supported by EXEBIO.

  • Application Deadline: January 22, 2025

Prior to the conference, a Summer School will be held on June 2, 2025, at the same location. It is designed to facilitate dialogue and exchange among PhD students, focusing on interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches to ecological bioeconomy.

Objectives

  • Strengthen PhD projects: Offer a platform to discuss research (theses, articles, working papers).
  • Networking: Connect with active researchers in ecological bioeconomy.

Participants will also have the opportunity to present their research at the conference sessions on June 3 and 4, 2025.

Call for Applications

PhD students wishing to participate should submit their application. Selection criteria include the relevance and quality of research related to bioeconomy in social sciences and humanities.

Registration Fees

Participants must register for the conference at the PhD preferential rate. No additional fees are required for the Summer School. Doctoral candidates may also present at the conference.

Mobility Grant for Emerging Countries

Mobility grants are available for selected candidates from emerging countries. Grants will be awarded based on the quality of the application and project.
