Summer School

The laboratory CRIEG - REGARDS is pleased to announce its 2025 international conference: "Towards an Ecological Bioeconomy - Interrogating Concepts and Practices from the Human and Social Sciences", dedicated to ecological bioeconomy and organized with the support of EXEBIO.

Before the conference, a Summer School will be held on June 2, 2025, also at the Croix-Rouge Campus. This Summer School is designed as a space for dialogue and exchange among doctoral students from diverse backgrounds, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches to ecological bioeconomy.

Objectives of the Summer School

The Summer School aims to support doctoral students and assist them with their research projects through:

  • Strengthening doctoral projects: Providing a platform to discuss research projects (e.g., thesis, thesis chapters, book chapters, articles, or working papers).
  • Networking: Connecting participants with active members of the ecological bioeconomy scientific community.

Participants will also have the opportunity to present their research during the conference sessions on June 3 and 4, 2025.

Call for Applications

Doctoral students wishing to participate in the summer school and present their work are invited to submit their application. As the summer school has a limited number of spots, the selection criteria will include the relevance and quality of research projects related to the bioeconomy in the humanities and social sciences (HSS).

Who, When, and How to Apply?

Any doctoral student, regardless of their discipline in the humanities and social sciences, may submit a proposal if it:

  • Falls within the scope of research on the bioeconomy, as outlined in the congress's call for papers.
  • Depending on their stage of progress, candidates are invited to propose a discussion around:
  • Their dissertation or a chapter of their dissertation
  • A manuscript in the form of a working paper
  • Recent methodological and analytical work

  • A two-page maximum summary of your project (with an indicative bibliography)
  • A motivation letter
  •  A CV, including your university affiliation, your research lab/institution, the names and email addresses of your dissertation supervisors, and your year of doctoral program start.

Additional Information

  • Applicants will be notified of acceptance by the summer school organizing committee via email.
  • Final and complete communications (approximately ten pages, including an indicative bibliography with a maximum of 10 references) must be submitted in May.

What Are the Registration Fees?

Participants in the summer school are required to register for the congress at the preferential rate for doctoral students (see the "Rates and Registration" section on the website). No additional fees are required for participation in the summer school. Doctoral students will also have the opportunity to present their work during the congress sessions. Submitting a proposal to the doctoral sessions does not preclude submitting a proposal for the congress in parallel

Application for the Mobility Scholarship for Emerging Countries

We offer mobility scholarships to selected candidates from emerging countries. These scholarships, in limited numbers, will be awarded based on the quality of the application and the research project presented. A second selection process will finalize the evaluation of the shortlisted candidates. All additional information regarding the selection criteria and regulations will be published on this page.
